Roger Evans is a skilful communicator, with vivid insights into the workings and sharp politics of one of the world’s most sophisticated cities under Ken Livingstone then Boris Johnson as Mayor. As former Deputy Mayor of London he knows how significant events and big decisions depend on the people at all levels working to make them happen.
Roger came to London from Lancashire in 1987 and worked for the Royal Mail. He quickly got engaged in community work, first as a school governor in the East End and then as a young local councillor.
He then studied law and was called to the Bar in 1997 where he reached the final of the prestigious Middle Temple annual debating competition.
After working as a legal advisor, he was elected to the London Assembly in 2000 and rose to lead the Conservative group at City Hall. In 2015 he became Deputy Mayor of London, working to support Boris Johnson and taking a leading part in many strategically important decisions.
He left public service in 2016 to start a new career as an advisor and consultant, helping to prepare candidates for senior positions in public and business life; some of his clients have subsequently moved on to ministerial positions at Westminster.
