MENUProfessor Paul Dolan has made the study of happiness his professional business. Born into a working class household in Hackney in the east end of London, he was the first in his family to go to university. Today Paul Dolan is Professor of Behavioural Science in the Department in Psychological and Behavioural Science at the LSE and is Director of the Executive MSc in Behavioural Science. Paul has worked as the Chief Academic Advisor on Economic Appraisal for the UK Government’s Economic Service, he is a member of National Academy of Sciences Panel on Wellbeing, and of the Measuring National Wellbeing Advisory Forum. He has been a visiting scholar at Imperial College London, and at Princeton, and is an associate of the Institute for Government.
In 2019 the Times named Paul Dolan amongst its ‘100 Greatest Minds’.
Professor Paul Dolan speaks on how and why we make choices in our personal lives and in our careers, and how we can make better ones. He speaks to business and public bodies on how behavioural science is able to help them in their own specialised fields of endeavour.
Paul is author of Happiness By Design – published in 2014 with a foreword by Daniel Kahneman. In 2018 he followed up its success with Happy Ever After: Escaping The Myth of The Perfect Life. Caroline Criado Perez described it as ‘Smart, engaging and funny’, saying that it ‘will make you question everything you think you know about what you want’.
Paul is fascinated by the polarization and binary schisms of contemporary, social-media driven discourse. His response is the podcast series, Duck-Rabbit a journey through our polarised culture – and out the other side. Here Paul seeks to find a way through the divisions in society that are making us miserable. It’s iformed, informing, entertaining – and funny!
Paul has turned his attention recently to the societal divisions that have arisen from Covid lockdown policies.
