Lord King of Lothbury is the former Governor of the Bank of England and Chairman of the MPC (the Monetary Policy Committee). After two terms in office, he retired from those positions in June 2013, having held significant posts including Deputy Governor, Chief Economist and Director throughout his 23 year career with the bank.
Educated at Cambridge, following his graduation he worked on the Cambridge Growth Project an econometric research project which developed a multisectoral dynamic model of the British economy used to forecast the economic growth of the British economy in the 1970s. He was subsequently lecturer at University of Birmingham and a Visiting Professor at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Throughout the 80’s he was Professor of Economics at the LSE, founding the Financial Markets Group in 1987. He joined the Bank of England in 1991 as chief economist and executive director.
King was appointed a life peer for contributions to public service in 2013 joining the House of Lords as Baron King of Lothbury in July 2013 sitting as a crossbencher.
