Bob Ainsworth

Bob Ainsworth has held a number of Ministerial positions including Defence secretary in addition to having been Chairman of Finance and Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council.

Elected to Coventry Council in the mid 1980’s he rose quickly, holding various offices to be Finance Chairman and deputy leader before the end of the decade.

He was elected to Parliament in 1992 and held ministerial posts throughout the period of the Labour government elected in 1997. Aviation in 2001, Organised crime and Drug control until 2003, Deputy Chief Whip until 2007, Armed Forces Minister until 2009 when he became a member of the Cabinet as Defence Secretary.

His political interests are wide ranging and include security, foreign affairs, education where he is a supporter of the academy programme, local government and the need for democratic renewal.

Bob has depth of understanding of the parliamentary process, the workings of Whitehall, the Labour Party and Local government.
