Peter Hobday – 16 February 1937 – 18 January 2020
For 14 years, Peter Hobday was one of the main presenters of the BBC Radio 4 flagship programme Today. He was the anchor man for the award winning advisory Money Programme and was also one of the original presenters of Newsnight.
In the world of radio, Peter presented the World at One and Financial World Tonight, a European business weekly, which was subsequently bought by Financial Times television.
Peter had a great sense of humour and spoke at countless dinners offering his a own take on journalism, the media and current affairs. He was much in demand as a conference chairman with a style that was lighthearted, witty and always well researched. Peter’s particular skill was getting real audience involvement in Question Time format sessions.
Peter was bilingual in French and English and used his skills as a regular contributor to French and French-Canadian television.
Peter was a visiting professor at De Montfort University’s Media Studies department and a leading media trainer for industry.
Peter Hobday was a superb journalist and speaker, a most charming and personable gentleman and he will be sadly missed.
