BIOGRAPHY

Greg Williams is one of the most respected voices interpreting how artificial intelligence and exponential technologies are transforming business, leadership and society. As Executive Editor of Exponential View – Azeem Azhar’s widely read Substack publication and one of the most influential weekly briefings on AI and emerging technology, Greg is at the centre of the global conversation around technological change, helping decision-makers understand what those shifts mean in practical, strategic terms.

Before joining Exponential View, Greg spent almost a decade helping lead WIRED, where he served as Deputy Global Editorial Director and became one of the industry’s most recognised editors and technology commentators. Across journalism, live events and advisory work, he built a reputation for translating complex technological and societal shifts into ideas audiences can immediately understand and apply.

Over the course of his career, Greg has interviewed many of the defining figures of the modern technology era, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, DeepMind co-founder Sir Demis Hassabis, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla and world leaders including Tony Blair, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. That level of access gives him a rare perspective on how technology is changing organisations, economies and influence at the highest level.

Alongside his media work, Greg is Chairman of VCG, a venture acceleration company that helps early-stage startups across AI, healthcare, cybersecurity, biotech and space become fundable, scalable businesses.

SPEAKING

As a keynote speaker, Greg Williams helps audiences cut through the turbulence surrounding AI and emerging technology, focusing not on speculation but on the changes already transforming business, leadership and society.

His talks explore artificial intelligence, the future of work, cybersecurity, climate technology and digital trust, alongside the growing entanglement of technology with geopolitics and global power, including the strategic implications of critical materials, supply chains and defence technologies.

Combining the authority of a senior editor with the clarity and storytelling instincts of an experienced broadcaster, Greg is known for making highly complex subjects engaging, accessible and commercially relevant. Rather than presenting abstract futures, he explains how industries are already changing, what leaders are getting wrong, where opportunities are emerging and how businesses can adapt before disruption becomes unavoidable.

Greg has delivered keynote presentations and moderated high-level conversations for organisations across finance, healthcare, energy, consulting, government and technology. He has spoken at global events including the World Economic Forum in Davos, the UN AI for Good Summit, Web Summit, VivaTech and Cannes Lions. Greg Williams spoke for Specialist Speakers at the Connexions Deeptech Conference in the Balna, Budapest, part of Hungarian Innovation Week at the request of Hungarian Innovation Agency.

BOOKS & WRITING

Greg’s forthcoming book Code, Capital, Power (2027) examines how major technology companies have reshaped markets, global power structures and modern society.

Alongside his journalism and speaking, Greg is also a published author and long-form writer. His books include the WWII thriller The Nero Decree (published as Gregory Lee), the comic novels Another Man’s Life and The Accidental Father, and the football fiction titles Football Crazy and Diamond Geezers. He also edited The Esquire Book of Sportswriting, a Penguin anthology drawing on the best of the magazine’s sports journalism from both sides of the Atlantic.

His essay on neuroeconomics appeared in Connecting Minds, Creating the Future alongside contributions from Bill Gates, Joseph Stiglitz and Hans Rosling, and his journalism has appeared in The Guardian, The Observer, Newsweek, Arena, The Face and Details.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Greg’s contribution to technology journalism has been widely recognised. He was named Technology Editor of the Year by the British Society of Magazine Editors four times — in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2024 — and has served as a judge for the Royal Society Science Book Prize.
