George Cooper

Dr George Cooper is a scientist, writer, and a highly successful real-world investor. After a career as a research scientist George worked a fund manager and strategist at some of the world’s largest financial institutions. He is the author of two highly significant and controversial books on economic theory and instability in financial markets.

The Origin of Financial Crises, published just before the failure of Lehman Brothers and the banking crash, looks at the role of monetary policy in the crises. It was described by The Economist as “a must read” and by The Independent as “awesomely lucid”.

In his recent book Fixing Economics, George takes his critique of economic orthodoxy a step further. He explains how and why the very ‘Science of Economics’ is in itself, wrong. The Financial Times said of it “There’s plenty here to annoy socialists and libertarians alike”.

As a speaker George has a extraordinary talent for explaining complex economic issues with brilliantly entertaining stories and analogies. He is an historian of the development and progress of science and on how innovative ideas and novel theories eventually displace old and redundant thinking.

George Cooper is co-founder and CIO of Equitile Investments. In October 2024 Equitile published part of their Longevity Project, studying demographics and the challenges of investing through the next phase of the demographic revolution.
