Paul Johnson is in the Public Finance Top 50, in the Higher Education Top 50 Power List, and he’s in International Tax Review’s Global Top 50. Paul has been Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, one of the UK’s leading economic research institutes since 2011.

Paul has worked as chief economist at the Department for Education. He has served as Director of Public Spending at the Treasury where he was Deputy Head of the UK Government Economic Service. And he has spent time working on public policy at Frontier Economics Ltd.

Paul is a visiting Professor in the Economics Department at University College London. He is a board member of the Climate Change Committee, the Banking Standards Board, the Office for Tax Simplification, and he is currently a trustee of health charity, The Kings Fund. He has led reviews of pension policy for HM Government and of price statistics for the UK Statistics Authority.

Paul Johnson is a well-known contributor to the media and is a columnist for The Times. He publishes extensively on the economics of public policy including tax, welfare, inequality, pensions, education, climate change and public finances.
