MENULaura Kuenssberg is BBC Political Editor and the first woman to take the role in the history of the corporation. Her reporting extends across daily news bulletins including BBC R4 Today programme and special productions.
Laura’s career has been meteoric, joining the BBC as a local journalist covering the North East region in 2000. She left the BBC for ITV in 2011 in the role of Business Editor; returning in 2013 as Chief Correspondent for Newsnight.
Laura’s probing interviewing style has seen allegations of bias made against her by both left and right. In July 2017 it was reported that the BBC had provided her with a bodyguard during the General Election campaign.
Laura is recipient of numerous awards including a regional Royal Television Society award early in her career and as Broadcaster of the Year and Journalist of the Year in 2016. Laura Kuenssberg was appointed BBC Political Editor in 2015, succeeding Nick Robinson. She announced plans to stand down from the post in 2022.
Laura now presents her own influential weekly politics show Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
