P Y Gerbeau – he’s always ‘PY’- began his career as an ice hockey player in France and became a successful professional international player on the French national team. He was invalided out of the game and chose to embark on a career in business. Recruited by the Disney Corporation he became Vice-President of Park Operations and Attractions at EuroDisney in Chessy, outside Paris. Disneyland Paris had suffered an inauspicious start and PY is credited with turning around its ailing fortunes and helping very much to make it the success it is today.
Given his resumé PY was the obvious hire to rescue London’s Millennium Dome after a difficult opening night and poor box office takings. By the end of the year, under his guidance, the Dome had welcomed more than six million visitors through its doors.
Until recently PY was Chief Executive of X-Leisure Holdings, owners of the Xscape centres.
In 2019 he was appointed as Chief Executive of the London Resort Company, owner of the new London Resort, an exceptional new leisure development on the banks of the Thames in north Kent ‘just seventeen minutes from St Pancras’. Opening in 2024, when complete, at over 500 acres, London Resort will be three times bigger than any other UK park. A entertainment district will include 3500 hotel rooms, retail, theatres, cinemas, music venues, restaurants, and event spaces, as well as a training college for the hospitality industry. A science and education visitor complex is planned and the entire development will make up ‘the largest single performing arts centre in Europe’. London Resort is seen as a vital part of the regeneration of Ebbsfleet and north Kent.
