Speaker Sir Trevor Phillips is the former chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and was the head of the Commission for Racial Equality. From 2015 to 2019 he served as President of John Lewis Partnership Council, he chairs interim and recruitment company Green Park and he co-founded the data analytics enterprise ,Webber Phillips.
Trevor Phillips is a writer, a documentary-maker and a broadcaster. As a specialist speaker he works at the intersection of business and society by way of diversity and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, and what data is able to reveal about contemporary attitudes and behaviours.
Trevor Phillips was a student activist in his home city of London and became the first black president of the National Union of Students. He then went on to work in LWT’s current affairs department where be became a producer and presenter. He was a reporter on This Week and rose to become the channel’s Head of Current Affairs.
Trevor Phillips served as chair of the Runnymede Trust, the think tank working to promote ethnic equality, as well as on the boards of a number of significant organisations. He was a Greater London Assembly member before leaving to join the Commission for Racial Equality. On the dissolution of the CRE he headed its successor, the EHRC.
Shortly after completing a second term at the head of the Commission, Trevor was appointed President of John Lewis Partnership Council. The Council is the elected body representing John Lewis employees in its unique partnership structure in which all staff have a stake in the business.
Trevor Phillips remains an often controversial commentator on diversity and immigration. He has written books on the Windrush generation and on Britain’s slave trade.
Trevor Phillips has now returned to broadcasting, hosting productions on race and current affairs. In 2021 whilst Sophy Ridge was on maternity leave he covered the Sunday morning programme on Sky News, rebranded as Trevor Phillips on Sunday, now a regular weekly political show.
