Wing Commander Andy Green

Andy Green is a pilot, an engineer, an adventurer, a speaker, and is the Fastest Man on Earth.

Wing Commander Andy Green OBE is the World Land Speed Record holder and the only person in history to break the sound barrier on land. A former Royal Air Force fighter pilot and decorated officer, Andy brings together elite military experience with one of the most extraordinary engineering achievements of the modern age.

In 1997, Andy drove the jet-powered ThrustSSC across Nevada’s Black Rock Desert at 763 mph, making him the first, and still the only person, to travel faster than the speed of sound on land. He later broke the Diesel Land Speed Record with the JCB Dieselmax, reaching a remarkable 350 mph in 2006. These record-setting runs weren’t just about raw speed – they were showcases of trust, teamwork, precision and, of remarkable courage.

Alongside his land speed exploits, Andy served on combat operations across the world including in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and the Falklands, flying frontline RAF aircraft such as the Phantom, Tornado F3 and Harrier. He rose to the rank of Wing Commander and led operational wings on active duty, applying the same focus and discipline that later defined his work on land speed record projects.

More recently, Andy was the driver and public face of the Bloodhound LSR project – a bold British-led attempt to build a car capable of reaching 1,000 mph. The project also included a major educational component, inspiring a generation of young people to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) – a mission Andy continues to champion.

Andy’s keynote talks explore Leadership, Risk, Teamwork and High Performance – drawing on a lifetime of experience operating at the very limits of human and machine capability. Audiences are taken inside the cockpit of a supersonic car and the decision-making of elite military command. Andy’s is a story of ambition, resilience and calm under pressure – told by one of the most compelling figures in British engineering and adventure today.
