Keynote speaker Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng is a British-Austrian industrialist and a leading advocate for the UK’s green industrial revolution and digital transformation. Born in Germany in 1964, he spent 33 years at Siemens, rising to become CEO of Siemens UK from 2014 through to 2019. During his tenure he championed the adoption of digital technologies and sustainable manufacturing, with a mission to position he UK as a world leader in Industry 4.0.

Juergen Maier is currently Chair of Great British Energy, the energy investment company in the United Kingdom founded by the incoming government to accelerate clean energy, both on and off-shore, and energy storage projects. He is also Chair of the UK’s Digital Catapult – he advises tech start-up and scale-up businesses – a key part of the new industrial ecosystem creating the green Fourth Industrial Revolution. He is a co-founder of vocL, a platform to promote responsible business.

Juergen takes a major leadership role for UK’s industrial, renewable energy and manufacturing community. He served on the Board of the Department of Business and Energy from 2014 to 2016. In 2017, he was asked by the then Government to lead a review into how to increase the digitalisation of the UK manufacturing sector, which has now led to the creation of the joint industry and government Made Smarter initiative driving advanced digitalisation, productivity and decarbonisation in manufacturing.

In the autumn of 2023, Juergen was commissioned by the Labour Party to lead in independent review on improving the state of the UK’s Urban and Rail public transport and the review was published in August 2024

A Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering, Juergen Maier holds honorary doctorates from multiple UK universities and is very widely recognizsed for his contributions to science, engineering, and sustainable development.
