BIOGRAPHY

Lu Xing completed her master’s degree and PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, where she worked on renewable energy system design and software development projects funded by the US Department of Energy in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It was there that she first began exploring how advanced technologies can be translated into energy systems that deliver real-world impact.

From there, her career took her across three continents and through a range of environments that few researchers experience in combination. She worked in software engineering and technology consulting at Accenture, gaining firsthand experience of how technical innovation moves from research into commercial application. She collaborated with the University of Florence on building‑energy analysis and thermal‑system design for a historic Italian hospital, and later worked in an International Technology Project Management role through the China Science and Technology Exchange Center.

Now Associate Professor in the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics at Northumbria University, Lu’s research spans AI-driven materials discovery, battery technologies, hydrogen systems, smart grids and intelligent energy networks. . Alongside her academic work, she has served as Chief Scientist at battery business, Continuous Power, and as Principal Scientific Advisor to Innovate UK‘s ICURe programme project and AI Scientific Advisor at Ballista Solutions.

Having secured more than £14 million in research funding and published more than seventy scientific papers, Lu continues to work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy, helping to build the intelligent infrastructure that will underpin a more sustainable future.
