Anthony Browne became chief executive of the British Bankers Association,the leading trade association for the UK banking and financial services sector, in 2012.
Previous roles included being Morgan Stanley’s head of government relations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as policy director for economic development for the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. As one of the key political advisers to the office, he provided policy advice to the Mayor and his Deputies as well as researching and developing new policies for London. Browne is a former director of thinktank Policy Exchange.
He was a national journalist for fifteen years, having been chief political correspondent and Europe correspondent for The Times as well as health editor, environment editor and deputy business editor of the Observer and economics correspondent for BBC TV and radio. He has written policy reports on issues ranging from NHS reform to immigration for a range of thinktanks including the Adam Smith Institute, Social Market Foundation and Civitas.
He has written and contributed to various publications, including regular contributions to the Spectator magazine, a weekly column in City AM and a book on whether Britain should join the European single currency.
