Katie Piper is a TV presenter, philanthropist and former model and was the victim of a shocking acid attack that left her blind in one eye and suffering from severe burns. Katie gave up her right to anonymity to become an advocate for burn victims, agreeing to appear in the Channel 4 documentary Katie: My Beautiful Face as part of the Cutting Edge series. The documentary followed Katie’s attempts to rebuild her life as she underwent plastic surgery and skin grafts, while dealing with the trauma and emotional impact of the attack.
Katie has continued to work in television and used her profile to set up the Katie Piper Foundation. The foundation raises awareness for burn and disfigurement victims, while campaigning for improved after-care schemes in Britain. Katie has appeared in follow up documentaries for Channel 4, meeting people with disfigurement and disability in Katie: My Beautiful Friends and receiving stem cell treatment in a bid to restore her sight in Katie: The Science of Seeing Again. Katie also presents Bodyshockers where she meets people who have had tattoos or plastic surgery they regret and are seeking to have the procedures reversed.
Katie’s autobiography Beautiful was released in 2011 and was followed by two self-help books and a second memoir entitled Beautiful Ever After, released in 2014. Katie has also written columns for Reveal and Now magazines, as well as guest columns for the Sunday People and the Sunday Mirror.
