Dr Raina Brands is an expert in organisational behaviour and women in leadership. She specialises in research into gender bias in organisations through the lens of social networks. She talks of how the careers of women are impacted by the nature of organisational structure. Her work has been published in numerous journals and she has been featured in the New York Times and Financial Times with articles on ‘friendship networks’ and the Language of Gender Bias.
Raina gained her Bachelor of Psychological Science degree from Queensland University and her PhD from Cambridge. She went on to sit on the faculty of the judge Business School, Cambridge before her current role as assistant professor of organisational behaviour at London Business School.
Her work has covered areas such as how stereotypical gender biases play a role in the perceived success of candidates for promotion and how organisational structures impact on career outcomes and how the consequences of rejection by gender and future aspirations are correlated.
Raina not only identifies these impacts but advises on practical steps that can be taken in order to avoid creating the Glass Ceiling and how to profitably improve diversity in the workplace.
