Speaker Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton led a challenging early life. She left home aged fifteen for the streets of Newport, South Wales. She spent two years surviving by selling The Big Issue before she had enough money saved to rent a flat. Getting a full-time address enabled her to join the fire service at the age of eighteen and her path to security, self-improvement, and success was set. Working as a firefighter Sabrina studied at the same time for a degree in psychology at the Open University and later went on to gain her PhD at Cardiff University in the Behavioural Neuroscience Lab.
Sabrina is now an Honorary Fellow at Cardiff and is one of the most senior female firefighters in the UK. She has won awards for her research work on incident command structure in the emergency services, receiving recognition and influencing policy internationally. As an acknowledgement of the lifeline out of homelessness provided by The Big Issue she now serves as an an ambassador for the project. Sabrina credits the magazine with saving her life.
As a keynote speaker Sabrina Cohen-Hatton is in tremendous demand for her insights into human behaviour, into organisational culture and for a story of achievement that is genuinely extraordinary.
Sabrina’s best-selling book, The Heat of The Moment is due to make it to TV screens soon. And, by the way, Sabrina’s Desert Island Discs were really good! Her favourite track – it’s Bankrobber by The Clash.
