Hon. Capri Cafaro spent a decade as a Senator in the Ohio State legislature. For three of those years she was elected by her peers in the Democratic Party as the Senate Minority Leader. In 2016, Cafaro stood down after the maximum 10 years permitted to serve in office.
During her time in politics, Capri worked, above all, to help to stimulate economic growth in her state and to give a voice to the most vulnerable. A trained and qualified social worker she understood the needs of those at the margins of society and was instrumental in bringing forward important legislation on victims’ rights, health insurance reform and on the expansion of Medicaid, the program that provides health coverage to low-income individuals.
Regeneration is vital to improve lives in many parts of Capri Cafaro’s state and she is expert on the need now for infrastructural renewal and in the financing of vital public construction. In the legislature she established initiatives on tourism and legislation aimed at growing more small businesses in the largest city in her area. Capri’s experience is second to none on the need to renew American infrastructure and on the improvements needed to help the US health system to face the future.
Today Capri is known to TV audiences throughout America for her appearances on CNN, Fox Business, and especially on Fox News, where she is a regular co-host of Outnumbered, now the number one cable news show in its time slot. Capri has also appeared frequently on news programs around the globe including BBC, Sky News and Good Morning Britain in the UK, CBC News in Canada and a variety of outlets in countries including France, South Africa, India, Poland, Germany and New Zealand.
A little less politics has also enabled Capri’s to follow her passion for great food and the history of American cooking. She is expert on the culinary traditions of the Midwest, and of America, and how immigration has created the cuisine of the USA today. Capri’s cookbook United We Eat: 50 Great American Dishes To Bring Us All Together about a common love of great food at a time of division in America. She also hosts the podcast Eat Your Heartland Out about the intersection of food and culture in the American Midwest. The show is distributed by the Public Radio Exchange and available on all podcast platforms globally.
