Jem Stansfield

Jem Stansfield has an extraordinary CV which includes experience as a shepherd, welder and circus worker. His technical and engineering skills began at Bristol University with a degree in aeronautics. In putting these skills to use, he once again defied convention and worked in special effects for the film industry and creating technical working exhibits for science centres and museums across the world.

He began his career in TV as an engineer for Scrapheap Challenge and has since developed and built a working jet pack, created a toffee powered rocket, an air powered motorbike and converted a sports car to run on used coffee grounds.

Jem worked on eight series of BBC1’s Bang Goes The Theory, where he creates, designs and builds the experiments, stunts and demonstrations. He has also appeared in BBC 4’s Explosion, Horizon, Planet Dinosaur Files for CBBC, Blue Peter and Mother of Invention for Sky Atlantic and The Hindenberg, a one hour documentary for Channel 4 and Discovery and many other independent productions.
