Speaking

Jamie Woodruff approaches cybersecurity from the attacker’s perspective.

An ethical hacker who began exploring computers at the age of nine, Jamie has built a career identifying the weaknesses that allow attackers to gain access to systems, buildings and sensitive information. His work demonstrates an uncomfortable reality for organisations: even sophisticated technology can be undermined by human behaviour. Jamie specialises in social engineering and the human side of cybersecurity. His highly interactive presentations explore how attackers manipulate trust, exploit everyday habits and combine digital techniques with surprisingly simple real-world tactics. In one memorable authorised penetration test, Jamie discovered that a regular pizza delivery provided a potential route into a client’s secure infrastructure. He took a temporary job as a delivery driver, made the delivery himself and gained access beyond the organisation’s first layer of physical security. After locating a server room secured by a conventional lock, he demonstrated just how far an attacker could penetrate an organisation by combining research, observation and social engineering.

Rather than treating cybersecurity as an abstract technical problem, Jamie shows audiences how attacks actually happen and what individuals, leaders and organisations can do differently. His talks cover social engineering, ransomware, insider threats, AI and cybersecurity, penetration testing and the changing threat landscape, delivered in a style that works equally well for technical and non-technical audiences.

Why Book Jamie Woodruff

Jamie Woodruff takes audiences inside the mind of an ethical hacker, revealing how attackers exploit technology, behaviour and trust to breach organisations. Combining remarkable real-world penetration testing stories with interactive demonstrations and practical lessons, he makes cybersecurity accessible, memorable and immediately relevant.

Biography

Jamie’s fascination with technology began when his father brought home a computer when he was nine. More interested in understanding how it worked than simply using it, Jamie took the machine apart and began a lifelong fascination with finding out how technology could be broken, rebuilt and better protected.

His skills developed into ethical hacking, identifying vulnerabilities and reporting them so they could be fixed rather than exploited. While studying information systems at Bangor University, he gained attention after successfully identifying a security vulnerability in a major social media platform during a student competition, an early demonstration of an instinct for finding weaknesses that others had missed.

Since then, Jamie has uncovered security vulnerabilities affecting major organisations, websites and online platforms, including work that identified weaknesses risking exposure of user information connected to high-profile individuals. His findings have contributed to organisations addressing risks they did not know existed.

Today, Jamie works in cybersecurity leadership at a UK-based IT support and security company, overseeing services including cybersecurity training, cloud solutions, penetration testing and IT support for schools and businesses. He also serves as cyber safety advisor to the Cybersmile Foundation, supporting its work on online safety and the human consequences of cyberbullying and digital abuse.

His particular interest is the point where technology and human behaviour collide. Jamie examines why people make the decisions they do, how attackers exploit predictable routines and assumptions, and why cybersecurity cannot be solved by technology alone.

That perspective also informs his work on emerging threats. Jamie explores how artificial intelligence is changing social engineering and lowering the barriers to sophisticated manipulation, research and cyber attack.

Across his speaking and cybersecurity work, his message is straightforward: no organisation can eliminate every vulnerability. Stronger security comes from understanding how attackers think, recognising the role people play in both creating and preventing risk, and building a culture where cybersecurity becomes everyone’s responsibility.
