Specialist Speaker Lucy Porter is a Comedian, Writer, Broadcaster and Awards Host
Speaking & Hosting
Lucy Porter has spent more than two decades making audiences laugh with a style of comedy that is intelligent, upbeat and unmistakably her own. Warm, quick-witted and naturally conversational, Lucy has the rare ability to make a large room feel surprisingly intimate. Her comedy is observational rather than confrontational, finding humour in everyday life, relationships and the peculiarities of human behaviour. It is a style that has made her a hugely popular stand-up performer and an equally dependable choice for corporate events and awards ceremonies. As an awards host and emcee, Lucy combines the instincts of an experienced comedian with years of live broadcasting and performance. She knows when to keep an event moving, when to involve an audience and when an unexpected moment is worth pursuing. Biography
Lucy Porter has been a fixture of British comedy for more than two decades, building a reputation for smartly constructed comedy delivered with infectious enthusiasm.
Her stand-up career has included numerous solo shows and extensive UK touring, alongside performances around the world. She has appeared in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Macau, Manila, Paris and Switzerland, and was invited to the United States to take part in NBC’s Last Comic Standing. She has also performed at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival for NBC and HBO and at major festivals including Edinburgh, Latitude and Kilkenny.
Lucy is equally familiar from television and radio. Her television appearances include Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Argumental, Pointless and Celebrity Mastermind. She became Celebrity Mastermind champion after achieving what was then the highest celebrity score in the programme’s history. On radio, Lucy has been a regular presence across BBC Radio 4, appearing on programmes including The News Quiz, The Unbelievable Truth, Heresy, Dilemma and The Personality Test, as well as numerous other comedy and entertainment programmes. Alongside performing, Lucy is an accomplished writer. She was one of the lead writers on ITV’s satirical animation Headcases and has written for television, radio, theatre and print.
Her play The Fair Intellectual Club explored the lives and ambitions of intellectually curious women in eighteenth-century Edinburgh. Following its stage success, the story was commissioned by BBC Radio 4 as a drama series.
Across stand-up, broadcasting, writing and live events, Lucy’s appeal comes from a combination that is difficult to manufacture: she is clever without being intimidating, funny without needing to dominate the room and experienced enough to deal comfortably with the unpredictable nature of live audiences. For awards ceremonies and corporate events, that makes Lucy Porter a particularly safe pair of hands.
