Graduating from the BBC Academy’s Expert Women, Dr Fern Riddell is one of BBC Radio 3’s ‘New Generation Thinkers’. As a cultural historian some of Dr Riddell’s best known writing is on sex and the working class in the Victorian and Edwardian era.
Fern appears regularly on TV and Radio, and writes for The Guardian, Huffington Post and Times Higher Education Supplement and is a columnist for BBC History Magazine.
Her first book, The Victorian Guide to Sex: Desire and Deviance in the 19th Century was published in 2014. Other works include Consult the Oracle: A Victorian Guide To Folklore and Fortune Telling.
Fern completed her PhD on the Victorian Music Hall.
