Trevor McDonald

Sir Trevor McDonald is a retired Newsreader and Journalist who presented countless news programmes for ITV. Joining ITN in 1973 as their first black reporter, he was the sole presenter of News at Ten for seven years, as well as the host of the corporations flagship current affairs programme Tonight with Trevor McDonald.

Born in Trinidad, Trevor has always been keen to keep in touch with his roots, presenting The Secret Caribbean with Trevor McDonald for ITV in 2009. Since then, he’s hosted five other documentary series for the corporation, including a 2013 visit to meet Death Row inmates and a 2015 investigation into the Mafia.

Sir Trevor was awarded an OBE in 1992, with a knighthood for services to journalism following in 1999, he was also awarded a BAFTA Fellowship in 2011. Still active in TV despite his retirement, he also writes poetry and is a keen cricket fan.
