MENUDame Claire Bertschinger is the nurse who famously inspired Bob Geldof to create Live Aid after her work in Ethiopia in 1984 was broadcast during Michael Buerk’s BBC report on starvation and poverty in the country.
Dame Claire continues to advocate on behalf of people in the developing world, with her strong belief that education, particularly for women, is key to creating sustainable improvements for people trapped in poverty. Dame Claire’s 2005 autobiography Moving Mountains gives part of the royalties to The African Children’s Educational Trust.
