Biography

Rob Brydon grew up in Baglan in South Wales, which perhaps explains something about his instinct for the comic possibilities of ordinary life, provincial ambition and characters who believe wholeheartedly in themselves even when no one else does.

He began his career in radio with BBC Wales before moving into voice work, comedy and television. His breakthrough came with Marion and Geoff, which he co-wrote and performed as Keith Barret, a taxi driver of irrepressible optimism processing the collapse of his marriage one fare at a time. The series established the distinctive blend of character comedy, pathos and observational humour that would become a hallmark of his work.

He went on to co-create and star in Human Remains with Julia Davis, winning Best Comedy Actor at the British Comedy Awards. He had already been named Best Newcomer at both the British Comedy Awards and the Royal Television Society Awards in 2000.

For many viewers, Rob is best known as Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey, one of the defining British sitcoms of its generation. He returned to the role for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale in 2024, once again bringing Bryn’s unique mixture of enthusiasm, awkwardness and carefully guarded mystery to millions of viewers.

His long-running collaboration with Steve Coogan in Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip series has become one of his most celebrated screen partnerships, combining improvised comedy, impressions, restaurant meals and the quiet competitiveness of two men who are never entirely sure who is winning.

Rob’s film work includes 24 Hour Party People, A Cock and Bull Story, Cinderella, Holmes & Watson, Early Man, Swimming with Men and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. His voice work spans some of the most beloved children’s animation of recent decades, including The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale and Tabby McTat. It is a body of work that has introduced his voice to several generations of younger audiences long before they were old enough to watch Would I Lie to You?

Alongside television and film, Rob continues to perform live and has toured extensively with his Words and Music shows. He hosts Brydon &, a weekly comedy interview podcast featuring extended conversations with comedians, actors and public figures. Guests have included Steve Coogan, Ruth Jones, James Corden, David Walliams and Michael Palin, with episodes regularly charting on Spotify and generating viral clips across social media. In 2026 he added another major presenting role to his career as host of ITV’s The Floor.
