Dr Marcel Steward

Dr Marcel Steward is CEO of Stewardship Consulting, a postgraduate geologist, one of the first environmental consultants and the first specialist environmental insurance broker in Europe. He is Environmental Practice Leader for three of the Four Major International Insurance Broking Houses. Marcel has an extensive knowledge of financial impact management of environmental risk within the investment, merger and acquisition and the corporate Balance Sheet and has contributed to the environmental legal framework in Europe (specifically in the UK and Spain) and Turkey among other countries.

He is an independently acknowledged expert in Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Community Development including waste management, infrastructure and harbour / port development, sustainable urban development, etc, is the course Tutor and Examiner for the MSc in Integrated Environmental Risk Management at the University of Bath, author and examiner of the specialist environmental risk unit of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Diploma and visiting Professor at the University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia).

Marcel has been intimately involved in the subject of asbestos since the beginning of his career in the early 1980’s. He was responsible for the investigation and management of the first asbestos contaminated sites in the UK. The methodologies utilised in these projects have since become the templates for asbestos contamination management in an open environment.

He has worked extensively as an asbestos surveyor and analyst compiling asbestos registers, managing an accredited asbestos analytical laboratory, executing and providing clearance monitoring and certification, etc. for numerous projects, amongst them some of the largest contracts to be undertaken in the UK and Europe.

Within the Financial Services Sector Marcel has been involved with the insurance and alternative risk finance in this regard on both sides of the Atlantic – particularly in relation to Balance Sheet management.
