Marty Jopson

Speaker Dr Marty Jopson is a prop designer, an inventor and a resident science reporter for the BBC’s The ONE Show. Cultivating the traditional mad scientist image, Marty has boundless enthusiasm for science and invention. His book The Science of Everyday Life examines the extraordinary science behind the mundane, such as why our fingers wrinkle when wet or why sheep don’t shrink in the rain! Marty wrote The Science of Food explaining nutrition to a lay audience.

As a performer, Marty’s live shows often involve fire, explosions and the creation of extraordinary props. Marty and his ONE Show team hold several world records as a result of their experiments, including the world’s largest boomerang and most steps descended by a slinky. Howvere Marty Jopson is a serious scientist – he  studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University before going on to achieve a PhD in Cell Biology. He’s highly informed – and great fun!
