As the Undercover Economist, Tim Harford shares his insight with Financial Times and Slate readers, powerfully highlighting how economic theory and market movements impact the everyday. Tim also wrote The Since you asked column for the FT until 2014 , taking a skeptical look at some of the weeks biggest stories. With an array of awards and achievements under his belt, Tim’s expertise lies in taking complex ideas and communicating them in terms we can all comprehend.
Tim has authored six books that collate his columns, examine the economy and with 2016’s Messy, look at how creativity and disorder can sometimes go hand in hand. His first book The Undercover Economist has sold more than 1.5 million copies and in available in 30 languages. Tim also presents BBC Radio 4’s More or Less. Since 2007 the programme has examined statistics and their connection to news and current affairs. More or Less has won several plaudits that include the Royal Statistical Society’s award for statistical excellence in broadcast journalism in 2010.
In 2007 and 2016 Tim won the Bastiat Prize, awarded for works that “explain, promote and defend the principles of the free society”. As a speaker Tim is an eloquent voice who has given several TED talks where he has examined how how trial and error are important factors, even in complex systems and how frustration can be a driving force in our creativity.
